Cleaning Homes Built for Sun, Hail and Dust
Pressure washing in Aurora is shaped by the climate. The city sits at an official elevation of 5,471 feet on a semi-arid plain, with low humidity, strong sun and frequent summer thunderstorms. Dust, pollen and storm debris settle on siding and concrete, while shaded north walls, the ground near sprinklers and the bottoms of fences can still hold green and black growth. A good cleaning plan starts by matching the method to the surface instead of using one high-pressure setting on everything.
Soft washing versus pressure washing
The two methods use the same kind of machine but very different force. Angi describes soft washing at roughly 150 to 300 PSI with a cleaning solution, against roughly 1,300 to 3,100 PSI for pressure washing durable surfaces such as concrete. We soft wash vinyl, stucco, painted wood and roofs, letting the solution loosen dirt and growth before a gentle rinse. We save higher pressure for concrete, pavers and other hard surfaces, usually with a rotary surface cleaner that spreads the force evenly.
Where the wash water goes
Aurora City Code Section 138-439 makes it unlawful to discharge any material that is not entirely stormwater into the city's storm drainage system, and the code's definition of polluting materials includes detergents, soil, sediment and organic material. Penalties under Section 138-444 can reach $5,000 per day. Because of that, we plan each job so wash water does not run down the driveway into the street. Depending on the site, that can mean directing rinse water onto lawn or landscaping where it can soak in without pooling or running off, setting temporary berms or covers so water stays away from inlets, or collecting water and disposing of it where the city or utility allows. Rules differ by city, so we confirm what applies at your address.
Washing during drought restrictions
Water-use rules come from your water provider, not always your city, and in 2026 they differ sharply across the metro area. Aurora declared a Stage 1 drought in April 2026. Under Stage 1, non-drip outdoor irrigation is limited to two days a week, and Aurora Water's water-waste rules cover water pooling, watering sidewalks or streets, irrigation leaks and unrestricted hose use. Aurora's drought page does not mention power washing. Denver Water, which supplies Denver and many neighboring areas, has been in a Stage 1 drought since March 25, 2026. Under Denver Water Board Resolution #002a-2026, effective Oct. 1, 2026, power washing by individuals may not occur except for immediate health or safety reasons, while commercial enterprises may power wash only as necessary, must clean without water first, must use high-efficiency equipment and must not waste water. We sweep or blow surfaces before washing, work with shut-off trigger guns, avoid runoff and pooling, and check your provider's rules before scheduling. If a job should wait, we tell you. Confirm current rules with your water provider.
After hail season
The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association places the Front Range in the heart of "Hail Alley" and lists the May 8, 2017 Denver metro storm as Colorado's costliest, at $2.3 billion in insurance losses. Hail can bruise shingles, dent gutters and crack siding. Cleaning does not fix hail damage, and washing a damaged roof can make things worse, so if a storm has just come through, have the roof checked before any cleaning is scheduled.
What a typical house wash includes
- A walk-around to note siding type, oxidation, peeling paint and damaged areas
- Dry cleaning first: sweeping or blowing off loose dirt, webs and debris
- Covering or rinsing plants, closing windows and protecting outlets and fixtures
- Low-pressure application of a cleaning solution suited to the surface
- A gentle rinse from top to bottom, including soffits, trim and doors
- A check of where rinse water drains, and cleanup before we leave

Common Questions
How much does pressure washing a house cost in Aurora?
Angi's 2026 national guide puts house pressure washing at about $0.10 to $0.50 per square foot, with an average around $312, and lists a Denver, Colorado range of $150 to $355. Two-story homes, stucco, heavy growth and hard-to-reach areas cost more. We give a written price after seeing the house.
Is it better to pressure wash or soft wash a house?
For most siding, soft washing. Vinyl, stucco and painted wood can be damaged by high pressure, which can force water behind siding, chip paint or etch the surface. Soft washing relies on a cleaning solution and a low-pressure rinse. Concrete, by contrast, usually needs higher pressure to come clean.
Can you pressure wash during Aurora's watering restrictions?
Aurora's Stage 1 drought page does not mention power washing. Its water-waste rules cover water pooling, watering sidewalks or streets, irrigation leaks and unrestricted hose use, so we use shut-off trigger guns and keep wash water from running across walks or into the street. We do not claim any exemption; check current rules with Aurora Water.
Is it legal to let pressure washing water go down the storm drain?
In Aurora, City Code Section 138-439 prohibits discharging anything that is not entirely stormwater into the storm drainage system, and the code counts detergents, dirt and sediment as polluting materials. Some residential activities, such as individual residential car washing, are exempted, but a cleaning job with soap and grime is not on that list. We keep wash water out of storm drains; confirm details with the city.
How often should a house be washed in Colorado?
It depends on the house rather than the calendar. Homes near open fields, busy roads or construction collect more dust, and shaded walls or areas hit by sprinklers can grow algae even in a dry climate. Timing also depends on your water provider's drought rules, which can limit or bar power washing for a period. We can tell you at the estimate whether a wash makes sense now or should wait.
Will soft washing hurt my plants?
Cleaning solutions can harm plants if they are left to soak in. We wet down or cover landscaping before we start, keep the application controlled, and rinse plants afterward. If you have delicate beds or vegetable gardens next to the house, point them out at the estimate.
Can you pressure wash in Denver Water's service area right now?
Denver Water Board Resolution #002a-2026, in effect since Oct. 1, 2026, says power washing by individuals may not occur except for immediate health or safety reasons, and allows commercial power washing only as necessary, after cleaning without water first, with high-efficiency equipment and no water waste. We sweep or blow surfaces first, use trigger guns, and will tell you if a job should wait. Confirm current rules with Denver Water.
